Welcome to Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Harrisonburg is an independent city within the confines of Rockingham County in the U.S. state of Virginia. The population was 40,468 at the 2000 census. It is the principal city of and is included in the Harrisonburg, Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Harrisonburg is located in the Shenandoah Valley and is home to James Madison University and Eastern Mennonite University. It is the county seat of Rockingham County. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Harrisonburg with Rockingham county for statistical purposes, while the US Census Bureau treats Harrisonburg as an independent County for census tabulation.

The Edith J. Carrier Arboretum is an arboretum and botanical garden on the James Madison University campus, located in Harrisonburg.
Located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, in the historic Shenandoah Valley, the Virginia Quilt Museum opened in 1995. In the year 2000, the museum was designated "the official quilt museum of the Commonwealth" by the Virginia General Assembly and the building was given to the museum by the City of Harrisonburg. The site is known as the Warren-Sipe House. The home was built in 1856 as a wedding gift for Edward Tiffin Harrison Warren and his bride Virginia Magruder.
The Harrisonburg Children's Museum has rolled out their upcoming schedule of events for all area kids! It's fun, educational and an opportunity to meet and greet others in the community.
Harrisonburg's own Municipal Golf Course sits in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. It features 18 beautiful holes that range from lightly wooded to fast links style golf. Heritage Oaks features golf course, driving range, practice green and pro shop.
As one of Virginia's oldest family-owned businesses, Suter's Handcrafted Furniture in Harrisonburg has seen its fair share of changes since the company began crafting cabinetry and furniture in 1839. During the course of more than 160 years since the company's inception, Harrisonburg has grown from a very small farming community to a mid-sized town known for its poultry companies and James Madison University, named as one of the top universities in the US.

Saturday's "Valley Fourth" celebration will take place on Harrisonburg's Court Square starting at noon and ending with a huge fireworks show around 10 pm.

Shoplifting Up, But Not Everywhere
WHSV compared reported incidents of shoplifting in Harrisonburg, Waynesboro and Staunton from January 1st through June 29th in the years 2008 and 2009. Shoplifting incidents went up in Harrisonburg and Waynesboro. Incidents in Staunton went down.
